You can now install Android on Apple iPhones

If you've always had the strange dream of using an iPhone that runs Android, that day has come. An initiative called Project Sandcastle challenges the limits imposed by Apple and is working to make Google's operating system work on Apple phones, and a beta test is even now available.

The project is led by David Wang and Chris Wade, experienced programmers who managed to put Android inside the original iPhone in 2010. Now, the goal of the duo and their collaborators is to offer the possibility to install the OS on any Apple phone, but this is still far from being achieved with perfection.

Currently, Sandcastle only works on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and has severe limitations, as the Android used cannot make essential features like GPU and Bluetooth work, for example. Despite this, it is already possible to boot the system and even use some applications, as shown in the video above, made by Forbes.

To use Project Sandcastle's Android on the iPhone 7, you need to have a bit of programming knowledge, as well as being aware that the procedure goes against Apple's usage guidelines, which limit your phones to work only with iOS. To place the OS on the smartphone, it is necessary to use the checkra1n Jailbreak tool and a build that can be downloaded from the project website.

It is important to note, however, that the installation is not recommended for ordinary users, since the developers themselves indicate that the process generates performance problems on the cell phone. For those who are interested in the project and do not intend to take any chances, the business is to keep following the development of the initiative.

On the Project Sandcastle website, the creators revealed a table with the current status of the program's support for each of the Apple phones that can go through the Jailbreak. Apparently, it should still take a while for Android to work steadily on any iPhone, especially on current models.
